Yes Family wuss-d-scene!
Man so much is going on in Utah! I am so proud and blessed to have "D" bess family in the world!:) The Lord has been very good to us and I am grateful for all the blessings I have seen with all of you.
Elder Schroeder and I did great this week, we met all our goals for this week and also met some really nice people. This week, we have been working with the Edwards family. Usually when we teach them, it's always ended up with questions like, "where does it say that in the Bible?" This is due to the fact that the wife is a Bible scholar, but one thing I love about my companion, is that he's a great teacher and knows his scriptures very well. So when we teach, we are able to teach in unity. The good news is, we were able to extend a baptism date for them on March 29th!
Yesterday we had our stake conference for Trinidad. Our mission president, his wife and President Gamiette of the quorum of the Seventy spoke. My favorite talk was given by President Mehr. He spoke on the repentance, importance of partaking of the sacrament, the atonement and he put an emphasis on the importance of fostering a culture of obedience. I know without a doubt that obedience brings blessings. My mission president is amazing!
This week is Carnival! All the missionaries in Tobago and Trinidad will be locked in their apartments beginning on March 2nd to the 4th so I will be writing to you guys on Wednesday the 5th.
Well, I hope everyone has a great week, work hard in everything that you do and "if ye shall be OBEDIENT to the commandments and ENDURE to the end, ye shall be saved at the last day." (1 Nephi 22:31)
Love,
Elder Brown
Ps…Aw sweet! I hope Coach Johnsen is doing great as well with his family!
PPs…Dad, thanks for writing to me. I love your letter, I want to print it out to remind me everyday to work hard.
* Every week, I (Melinda) do all the writing to Elder Brown. I'm sure that's the case with most missionary mums out there. Tom rarely writes due to being busy with work and such but when he does, it seems like Elder Brown has a greater appreciation for his letters. Here's one of Tom's few letters to Elder Brown.
January 20th:
Hi son,
Last week it was about -50 degrees below zero for a couple of days. Good thing we weren't allowed to work those days. It's too dangerous. You can get frostbite real easy.
I really don't know I said some of those things to you in the letter, but they were just some things that have been on my mind a lot lately. Glad you were able to receive it well.
Anyway, we always look forward to hearing from you every week. It sounds like you had an awesome zone conference. I always looked forward to those special meetings. They always included a special Witness or General Authority.
I just finished listening to Alma 35-46. Those are some powerful chapters of scripture. Every time I read the B of M, I always think of the great work you missionaries are doing out there. Use your creativity. The key to being more successful out there, I think, will be making sure to involve the members. Case/point: Remember after Ammon took King Lamoni to teach his father. He was able to testify to his father about the truthfulness of the Gospel and was baptized.
I'm sure you and Eld. Ferrin will figure it out. I just wanted to let you know, whenever it gets really hard out here to work in some of these conditions, I always think of you and the great work that you're doing. It always brings me to tears and it strengthens and helps me get my second wind to continue working. I know there's a noble purpose of why I'm out here, away from home.
I just want to let you know that you are a great inspiration to not only me but to many others you know. Please keep up the good work and give it 110% each and every day and I promise you that good things will happen. I love you and pray for you daily.
Love,
Dad
