May 27th - Sanctification!

Good morning family!

Sorry for the late reply, yesterday was Independence day for Guyana.

Wow!  What a week for everyone!  Looking at the graduation pictures made me feel like I just graduated too.  Man I wish I could be there to see Lawrence speaking on his graduation day this Friday, but I'm sure I will see it on video when I get home.  Nice looking car dad!

One of the missionaries here was so homesick, he called the mission president every week and never wanted to unpack his suitcase.  It took him some time to know that reality he's going to be out here for two years.  Part of growing up is to face what used to be normal to us.  Like Lawrence always talked about the "WHY."  I know my "why" and that I love the Lord.  Because of that, it wiped away fear, homesickness, doubt, hunger, tiredness etc.

Guess what?  I finally finished reading the "Infinite Atonement."  I recommend anyone to read and study this book.  It really gives an insightful meaning on the Atonement and the doctrine of this gospel.  After I read it, I gave it as a gift to one of the members, in return he gave me a sweet paisley tie!  If you don't mind, can you send me the "Article of faith" by James E. Talmage.

Sad day today, Brother Kahn did not pass his baptism interview due to personal issue but other than that we will continue to work with him until he is on the right track which be by next week he should be okay and good to go.

A couple of days ago, one of our investigators in the past was murdered.  Elder Felix and I attended her funeral yesterday.  It was soooo sad:(

We're working with the Gilbert family.  They are so sweet.  They read the BOM as a family and they came to church!  Brother Gilbert is working on the word of wisdom and hope to baptize them on June 14th.

Please think of those people who need the gospel in their lives.  In Alma 6:6 it says, "....and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who knew NOT God."  This is my challenge for you guys and for those who may be reading this right now.

Before I end, something important just came to my mind and I would like to share it with you.  It's about the meaning of sanctification that was shared by our mission president.  In 2 Nephi 9:49 - "Behold, my soul abhorreth sin, and my heart delighteth in righteousness; and I will praise the Holy name of my God."  Pres. Mehr said that "The Holy Ghost is a sanctifier, one who lives worthy of the guidance and cleansing  influence of the Spirit will in process of time, become sanctified.  Sanctification is the process whereby one comes to hate the worldliness he once loved and love the holiness and righteousness he once hated.  TO BE SANCTIFIED IS NOT ONLY TO BE FREE FROM THE EFFECTS OF SIN, BUT ALSO TO BE FREE FROM THE EFFECTS OF SIN, FREE FROM SINFULNESS ITSELF, THE VERY DESIRE TO SIN.  One who is sanctified comes to look upon sin with abhorrence" (cf Mos. 5:2; Alma 13:12; Alma 19:33). (McConkie and Millet Doctrinal and Commentary on the Book of Mormon. vol. 1 p. 263).

Well family, know that I love and miss you all very much.  Have a great week!

With love,
Elder Brown

P.s....Answers to your questions Mom:  What kinda food we eat here in Guyana?  Oatmeal, ramen noodles, church's chicken, Chinese food and other Guyanese snacks.  Can't wait to come home and eat like a beast haha!  Do we have hot water?  Yes, but we bath cold water, it's the best! Toilet?? Well, we fill it up in order to flush:).  My shirt discoloring?  Well, it's probably from the water, but I have this new soap will whiten the shirt but I will let you know if I do need more.  Snacks?  Eld. Felix said he would love to eat some American treats:)  If you send something, just send protein.  Sorry Mom know I appreciate all you and dad do for me!
