Yes I wuss-d-scene family!
Man I wish I was in the midst of the congregation at Lawrence's farewell. I truly am proud to hear how great he has become and what a an awesome topic to speak on. President Mehr speaks about exact obedience ALL the time.
Our last MLC meeting, Sis. Mehr asked that I share an experience where I had to be exactly obedient and so I related obedience to "BODY BUILDING." In the field of body building, you must learn to fully discipline your diet. You must prepare the meal, weigh it and eat at an exact time. Little things like that make a huge difference in reshaping and body definition. Then I connected that to how we do missionary work, simple things we need to adhere to such as getting up & retire to bed on time and abiding with the mission rules. As we do so, the Lord will bless us tremendously.
I am so glad Lawrence spoke on obedience because members and especially youth now a days really need to hear that. I sure am a proud brother!
Amazing how Lawrence and I spoke on the same day and speaking of that, my topic was "move a little further." Btw, Mom I am impressed with how I can write my own talk (not have to rely on you Mom haha) and read it to myself a few times then when it comes to speak, I would always say a little prayer and ask Heavenly Father to loosen my tongue and speak with what I have prepared and I've learned to speak with enthusiasm. With my talk, I shared John 21 and tied that with 1 Nephi 16:29..."By small means the Lord can bring about great things." The Lord can only do that when we "move a little further" in doing the Lord's work, family prayers, scripture study (a struggle here in Couva), just doing little things can bring greater blessings in our lives and not stay the same every day of our lives.
I also shared an experience from when I was working for Dan Jones and Associates, I remember not doing well as I wanted to, occasionally one of the managers would listen in on one of my calls to make sure I was conducting the survey correctly. About 2 weeks later I finally had my progress interview with one of them and they told me something I'll never forget, he said, "May be if you put more enthusiasm in the tone of your voice, people would want to speak to you." I realized that my voice was probably lack of excitement and just made the client wanted to hang up on me haha! So you can see how something exiguous could have made a profound difference if I had just try to talk to people with a little excitement. Just like doing the Lord's work, we gotta move a little further, be excited to work for Him!
Enough of my talk, here's a little good news. Yesterday Elder Guzman and I took out 2 fine young adults and went on splits. We covered a lot of appointments and we were able to talk to a lot of new people this time. Our area has really progressed, when I first arrived here, we only had 1 person in our teaching pool but guess what? We currently have 20 people:) The Lord has truly blessed us and I know it's by doing small means such as trying to be obedient and moving a little further. Something we try to focus on this week is bridging the gab in our Zone and working on our investigators with a baptismal date to attend church. Elder Guzman and I are working hard on strengthening this issue that we're struggling with. We will continue to take this to the Lord and pray that we will find a cure/solution the weaknesses of our Zone.
Well family I sure love you all and I can't wait to hear from Lawrence in the MTC and the mission field:)
With love,
Elder Brown
Ps...How's our ward? Do you like the new ward building? Love the backyard dinner for Lawrence, more personal and simple. Thanks for the $, gotta treat my companion and Zone in town for ice cream haha!
